On the Metaphysical Properties of Sunstone Bracelets
Dec 21st 2022
Among the many unique crystals, stones, and jewelry we sell here are our unique sunstone bracelets. These gems (no pun intended) are host to numerous metaphysical properties and are not just aesthetic treasures - they may be able to confer additional benefits - but what are they?
Let’s peel back the layers and crack the code of sunstone.
What Is Sunstone?
First, the tech talk. Sunstone is an igneous stone, a tectosilicate oligoclase feldspar, which can range from semi-transparent to opaque. It is commonly rusty red, pink, or orange in color and has been found around the world in various locations, in the United States as well as in Scandinavia and Australia.
Much of sunstone’s allure is attributable to its unique optical effects, which are caused by minute irregular scales and metallic inclusions of copper and hematite in the crystalline matrix.
The chief optical effect of sunstone for which it is known is called “schiller.” Schiller refers to the manifestation of a metallic luster or iridescence that some minerals (like sunstone) possess. Schiller is a unique reflective property and almost makes it seem like sunstone has an inherent internal glow.
Sunstone and aventurine produce a similar nearly metallic sparkle. For this reason, sometimes schiller is also referred to as “aventurescence,”
Historically, sunstone has been cherished as an aesthetic treasure - but it is also a powerful stone of positivity.
What Is Sunstone Good for?
Unsurprisingly, sunstone, being named after the sun, symbolically reflects the sun as the origin of all life. Like the sun, sunstone glows with a seemingly internal radiance that can illuminate light and life.
Sunstone is a stone of positivity and clarity. It is believed to clear the mind and provide clarity of thought, uplifting the senses. It is also believed to have the power to lift negative moods, dissipate negative auras and encourage self-reliance.
On this latter note, sunstone is believed to instill and empower courage and leadership, emboldening the wearer. It is believed to boost confidence, ease fears and insecurity, and cleanse other factors that might hold you back.
Sunstone may also uplift the mood. Since it is excellent at dispelling negative energies and purging the aura of negative vibrations, it may help the wearer with self-acceptance and bring about a sense of calm and tranquility.
Sunstone is also seen as a stone of joy, perhaps as another nod to its namesake. It is believed to be a light in the metaphorical darkness, and to uplift the spirits. It may also encourage feelings of gratitude and happiness. It helps wearers appreciate and enjoy living, encouraging a “joie de vivre.”
The ancient Greeks believed the light of the sunstone was attributable to its association with the sun, and the Native Americans believed that the stone was capable of healing powers, saying that its faint red hues derived from the blood of a noble wounded warrior. They believed the sunstone, in addition to providing light and happiness, could cleanse and heal the soul as well.
Although sunstone is predominantly associated with the base and sacral chakras, some believe the stone is effective at cleansing and balancing them all.
Who Should Wear Sunstone?
Given the numerous metaphysical properties associated with sunstone, there are plenty of people who might benefit from wearing a sunstone bracelet.
For instance, anyone who is experiencing self-doubts or has fractured self-assurance might profit from wearing sunstone jewelry
Anyone who wants to dispel negative energies, to more fully enjoy the pleasantries of living, might find that sunstone helps channel their inner, native positivity and dissipate auras of negativity around them.
Sunstone might also benefit anyone who is looking to balance their chakras and to be more receptive to positive energies in general, or who is struggling to emotionally heal from a traumatic experience or memory.
Of course, our sunstone bracelets also make wonderful gifts for their aesthetic value alone!
Are Sunstone and Moonstone the Same?
No, sunstone and moonstone are not exactly the same, although they are very similar.
Moonstone, also known as hecatolite, is also a type of feldspar, like sunstone. However, moonstone is usually blue, gray, or white (although it can be other colors) whereas sunstone is usually a warmer shade.
Moonstone also exhibits a metallic luster, or schiller, just like sunstone, and is possessed of its own unique metaphysical properties.
