Display Knives and Premium Handmade Swords to Brag About
Posted by Eric Meyer on Oct 18th 2026
Hello All, it’s Eric from Ice Imports.
People ask me often what the difference is between a knife that’ll just sit in a drawer and one that actually should have a spot on the wall. Same thing with swords. After twenty five years of selling this kind of stuff, (and a lifetime of loving it) the answer is pretty simple: it either looks crisp and intentional or it looks like cluttered trash.
Display Knives
These are the ones that get pulled out when someone wants something that looks finished. The hunters with wood handles — Cardinal Wood, Night Tiger, Zebrawood, Brass Wrapped — sit well on a shelf or in a small shadow box. They’re not trying to be tactical; they’re just cool.
Throwing knife sets and the kukri do well for the same reason. They have a shape that people can tell what it is from across the room. The Damascus folders and fixed blades (bone, stag, turquoise) get bought by people who already have a few knives and want one that feels different when you pick it up.
Swords (the ones people actually hang up)
The anime and game pieces move well because their design is already so recognizable. Ciri’s Sword, the various Solo Leveling blades, Demon Slayer pieces like the Tengen dual swords or Rengoku’s Nichirin, and the Elden Ring stuff all get asked for by people who already know where they want them mounted. The Master Sword still gets a ton of attention, there are a lot of different versions of the Master sword and the one we carry is the BEST one I’ve ever seen.
On the fantasy side, Gimli’s axe, Glamdring, and the bigger Executioner Blade work the same way — they’re statements.
Premium Handmade Swords are the ones to brag about
The premium forged katanas we carry (gold splatter, dragon sheath Damascus, and the higher-end folded steel ones) are for people who want something real but without needing a full martial arts setup. Handmade and high carbon are great, folded steel is phenomenal also. Those types sit in the premium forged section.
Foam versions exist for a reason. If you’ve got kids, roommates or go to conventions, the foam katanas and axes look the part on a wall and don’t stress anyone out. We both know the uptight people we’re talking about. Side note, my mom wouldn’t let me have a sword when I was younger… But now I have ALL the swords :)
What tends to stay up
The pieces that don’t get taken down later are usually the ones with a recognizably famous shape and a reason to be there. A random folding knife rarely makes it onto a display. A hunter with a wood handle, a recognizable anime blade, or a clean katana with a sick tsuba does.
If you’re thinking about adding something, the real question is just whether it matches what you already have on the wall or shelf and if that’s the vibe you want for your space. One strong intentionally chosen piece beats three that don’t quite make the cut.
